Biography
eBorn in Colchester in July of 1968, Darren`s aspirations for the draw of Showbiz, began when his Grandfather (who was a warm up act for George Formby), took him along to see Morecombe and Wise topping the bill at the London Palladium.
Thereafter, Darren (then aged 5), declared that one day,
he too would top the bill at the Palladium!
A keen interest in Snooker from age 11, lead to Darren turning semi professional after leaving school, and he played in exhibition matches with the Snooker Greats, including Steve Davis and Jimmy White. Here he achieved his highest break of 136.
He also started impersonating the various Snooker Stars.
Darren`s career, throughout the 90`s, is marked with overwhelming success both on stage and on TV. In addition Darren had a top twenty hit in 1996 with Summer Holiday Medley with an appearance on Top of the Pops. backed by the Shadows
Catapulted swiftly into the Limelight, Darren`s career heightened, when in May 1993, he received amazing reviews and a 10 minute standing ovation at the London Palladium, when he took over the role of Joseph for 3 weeks, in Philip Schofield`s absence.
Darren returned to the role of Joseph in no fewer than 8 separate
national and international productions, including in Hong Kong.
Thereafter, Breaking Box Office Records and receiving sensational reviews for his many sold-out performances in numerous leading roles in West End and Nationwide Touring Musical Productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat, Great Expectations, Copacabana, Summer Holiday, Grease and Rocky Horror Show.
Darren`s TV work in the 90`s; included hosting Prime time Television, You Bet and Dont try this at Home,. Other TV successes included Just Kidding, Teen, Win, Lose or Draw and Going Live. In 1994 Darren was cast in the role of host of the BBC`s Children`s Royal Variety Show - he was the youngest ever host of this show!
In 1996, Darren received the prestigious Sir James Carreras Award for Outstanding New Talent
Darren`s film `Hellbreeder` achieved accolades at Cannes.
Since the start of the new millenium, Darren has continued to delight audiences on tour with musicals such as Carousel, and Alfie; and more recently with concerts; The Music of Manilow and more. Additionally, Darren adds seasonal cheer each year, as he leads the cast
in Box Office Record Breaking
Traditional Pantomines, up and down the country.
TV work has included Doctors, I`m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here, The Bill, Celebrity Scissorhands, Keith Barrett Show, Extreme Soap (Harry Hill Sit Com), etc., etc.
In November 2007, Darren released his single `Wired for Sound`, a upbeat Dancey cover of a
familiar hit song, but with a techno twist`. (Optimum Records)
Darren is currently on a 30 week, nationwide tour of Hello Dolly, starring alongside Anita Dobson!
